ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

In addition to the core and elective program provided the interns, the UMDNJ-Newark environment offers many additional educational resources, facilities, and opportunities for interns.

Grand Rounds. All interns are invited to attend the Department of Psychiatry's Grand Rounds series that is held several times a month. Nationally and internationally known scholars and researchers routinely present their work.

UBHC Continuing Education Programs. UBHC provides its staff with an excellent series of trainings in a variety of practice areas. These programs are available free of charge to all employees, including interns.

Offices. Each intern has his or her own office with phone, voice mail, computer, email account, and secretarial support. Offices of child interns have a small supply of toys and art materials.

Library Facilities. The University has an excellent state-wide library system. Books, reprints, and videotapes are available via interlibrary loan from universities and hospitals throughout the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area.

Computers. UBHC is utilizing an electronic record system. Each intern has a personal computer that can be used for word processing, ongoing clinical documentation, e-mail, and Internet access. Interns have access to the APA PsycINFO database and to Medline, and so can conveniently conduct on-line literature searches. Training courses on the use of many types of software are offered by UBHC Information Services and by the UMDNJ Academic Computing Services Center at Newark. The courses are open to psychology interns. Interns can also obtain expert professional consultative assistance on computer utilization from these UBHC and UMDNJ services.

Video Equipment. Video equipment and observation rooms with one-way mirrors are available at UBHC. Additional audio-visual equipment is available through the New Jersey Medical School Educational Communication Center.
