PROGRAM GOALS

The internship program has the following goals for students in the program.

  • To develop professional competence in methods of diagnosis, assessment, and psychotherapeutic intervention for either children or adults, with a particular focus on underserved urban populations of color, and high need populations.
  • To promote competence in and commitment to working with individuals from backgrounds that reflects cultural and individual diversity.
  • To develop competence in working collaboratively with the multiple systems that impact on clients and families in a public setting.
  • To promote skills in working collaboratively with other disciplines and an understanding of the role of psychological practice within the health care system.
  • To promote skills in outcome assessment, program evaluation, program development, and clinical research.
  • To promote skills in conveying psychological knowledge to others.
  • To foster high standards of ethical practice and professionalism.
  • To develop an understanding of the impact of legal, governmental, and funding systems on psychological practice.
  • To encourage ongoing professional self-development and increased ability to recognize and cope with personal issues that affect professional functioning.
