Services Offered

. Individual counseling
. Family counseling
. Couple counseling

The Student Wellness Program provides assessment and referral services for students and household members of the University family. If additional services are needed beyond the counseling available through SWP, a referral will be made to a community resource.

The Student Wellness Program also offers support and special interest groups upon special request. These are time limited groups.

Making an Appointment

To schedule an initial consultation session, call:
. (732) 235-5933 (Piscataway)
. (973) 972-5429 (Newark)
. (856) 770-5750 (Stratford/Camden)

Students in crisis during office hours may be seen on a walk-in basis, as schedules permit. Calling ahead to notify us will expedite seeing a counselor.

After your initial session, you and your counselor will determine subsequent meeting times.

What to Expect

First Appointment-Generally, you will be seen by a counselor within one to two weeks of your call for an intake session; all emergency calls are taken and assessed immediately. During the first session, the counselor will help you explore your problems and arrive at a course of action. Student Wellness Program services are offered on a time-limited basis. In general, students are eligible to receive 1-8 sessions of individual counseling per problem.

Confidentiality

Information shared by you in a counseling session will be treated by the Student Wellness Program with strict confidence and is protected by law. Your information will not be disclosed to anyone outside the Student Wellness Program without your express written permission, except when in the judgment of your counselor, such disclosure is necessary to protect you or others from danger. If you have any questions about confidentiality, please ask your counselor.
